While the Logo itself features the now iconic, upside down hanging bat in an octagon, the counterpart in the chosen font is extremely important. To create a world in which this team is the favourite of their Italian home crowd a font reminiscent of college sports typefaces was chosen.
Combining this household look with technical patterns and an outstanding colour contrast helps bring their dream to the big stages of loud eSports designs.
Das Logo selbst zeigt die mittlerweile ikonische, verkehrt herum hängende Fledermaus in einem Achteck. Es war extrem wichtig, ein Gegenstück in der Schrift zu finden. Eine an College-Schriften erinnerte Schriftart wurde gewählt, um eine Realität zu erschaffen, in der “Angry Bats” das Lieblingsteam der italienischen Fans in der Heimat sind. Die Kombination dieser Schrift mit technischen Mustern und einem herausragenden Farbkontrast hilft dabei, dieses Team auf die lauten Bühnen des eSports-Designs zu bringen.
To give context for the octagonal style and colours, both are frequently used by traditional sports clubs from the area. Luckily enough the shape itself pays homage to the Castel del Monte which is in the area of the city, giving our beloved flying mammals a sigil to boast.
Die Entscheidung für Farbe und Form wurde im Kontext der Umgebung getroffen. Sowohl der achteckige Stil als auch die Farben werden häufig von traditionellen Sportvereinen in dieser Region von Italien genutzt. Das Achteck selbst ist eine Hommage an das Castel del Monte, das in der Nähe von Andria liegt und unseren geliebten, fliegenden Säugetieren ein Siegel gibt, mit dem sie sich rühmen können.
BATS ESPORTS
Hailing from Andria, Italy, the Angry Bats are an organisation competing in various eSports titles, most notably Rainbow 6 Siege, Valorant and League of Legends. They were struggling to find an identity that suited them, with no overarching concept in mind. After we began working on the project, it was clear they needed to use the bold colours for screen displays but still keep a sense of tradition in their roots.
Die in Andria, Italien hausenden “Angry Bats” sind eine Organisation, die an verschiedenen e-Sport-Titeln teilnimmt, insbesondere an Rainbow 6 Siege, Valorant und League of Legends. Sie hatten Probleme damit, eine passende Identität zu finden und kein übergreifendes Konzept im Sinn. Mit der Arbeit am Projekt wurde klar, dass sie kräftige Farben für Bildschirme brauchen, ohne dabei ihre traditionellen Wurzeln zu verlieren.
In various media from physical to digital this concept can be used and is also made easier to use with a big folder of assets like backgrounds, patterns and stickers, which were delivered to the organisation. This keeps the BATS with their new name flying even when this project is no longer in my hands.
Das Konzept kann in verschiedenen physischen und digitalen Medien benutzt werden. Die Organisation wurde mit einem großen Ordner mit Assets wie Hintergründen, Mustern und Stickern beliefert, um die Handhabung zu vereinfachen. So können die BATS unter neuem Namen eigenständig meinen Händen entfliegen.
Somewhere in between bat caves and an upside down court, hype videos with original footage were created to support the launch of the re-branding. The fans loved the big steps we took with this project and I hope it inspires you to compete!
Irgendwo zwischen Fledermaushöhlen und einem auf dem Kopf stehenden Spielfeld wurden Hype-Videos mit Originalmaterial erstellt, um den Start des Re-Brandings zu unterstützen. Die Fans waren von den großen Schritten, die wir mit diesem Projekt gemacht haben, begeistert.
